Couscous Clumpy
Your couscous formed clumps because it absorbed liquid unevenly or was not fluffed. Steam and fluff to separate the grains.

The fix
Tap a step to check it off.
- 1 sprinkle 2 tablespoons hot water or stock over the couscous
- 2 cover and steam for 2 minutes to rehydrate evenly
- 3 fluff with a fork and drizzle with 1 teaspoon oil to separate grains
If it's still wrong
- Spread on a sheet pan and bake at 350F for 5 minutes to dry.
- Toss with vegetables and serve as a warm salad.
Prevent next time
- Pour boiling liquid evenly and cover immediately.
- Fluff as soon as it finishes steaming.
Notes
Why this works
Couscous clumps when surface starch hydrates unevenly. Steaming softens those clumps and oil coats the grains so they separate.
